The website I use to track visitor statistics shows search terms that were used to access my blog. In the past forty-eight hours, somebody Googled “horse sex” and was linked to my site. I’m not sure which part of that is more alarming: the fact that they were looking for such a thing, or the fact that Google believed my site might actually provide an answer to such a query.
But speaking of horse sex (I’ve waited all my life to say that), does anyone recall the story last summer about the man in Seattle who died after having relations with a horse? As evidenced by this passage from an article on MSNBC.com, it was not actually prohibited at the time:
“Although sex with animals is not illegal in Washington state, Sgt. John Urquhart said that investigators were looking into whether the farm, located in Enumclaw, 40 miles southeast of Seattle, allowed sex with smaller animals that resulted in animal cruelty, which is a crime.
‘If you’re talking about sheep or goats, there could be some issues,’ Urquhart said.”
Yeah, I’d have to agree.
Washington State legislators are now in the process of making such relations illegal, thereby enabling them to adequately punish offenders (although one is left to wonder if there is a worse punishment than making the national news by dying of a perforated colon from engaging in sexual activities with a horse). I suspect that lawmakers will face little difficulty in passing this bill – after all, what politician would be willing to stand up and publicly vote in favor of horse sex?
