My grandma and my iPod both died within the last 12 hours, but when we had exactly enough eggs this morning to make both breakfast and the muffins I was planning to bake, Bobby noted, "Looks like today is going to be one of those days where everything just works out." Grandma, if you are reading this somewhere, you're probably shaking your head because I can't keep from slapping my personal life on the Internet. But just know that I mean well, I miss you so much, and I am really glad you are no longer trying to set a record for the longest-running resident of hospice care. Rest in peace, and know that we will never forget you and that you are very much loved. I feel so lucky to have had you as a grandmother.

Miscommunication

Bobby and I were invited to attend a wedding this past Saturday afternoon and were asked to bring a covered dish. The invitation more specifically requested that, in accordance with an Irish tradition, we bring a dish that is special to our family and provide the recipe as well, but I just assumed Bobby had seen that part. I asked him to handle getting our dish together by Saturday morning; between my work and training schedule, he has a bit more free time, and I have also taken care of every dish we've every brought anywhere in the past. It seemed fair that he take responsibility for this event, so after a brief discussion on Thursday night outlining where he could get recipe ideas and what needed to be done (find recipe, shop for ingredients, prepare dish), I thought we were all set.I came home from work on Friday night ...continue reading.

Thursday Thoughts

1. Why do I see so many people riding bicycles with a helmet dangling from the handlebars? People, it's not like garlic and vampires, where just having the stuff somewhere on your body will keep you safe. You actually have to put the helmet on your head to make it work.2. At the race last Sunday, I had my leg marked with a large, black "15" to signify my racing category. I have showered a time or five since then, but the marking still remains quite prominent on my calf. So why have none of my coworkers bothered to ask why I have "15" drawn on my leg, despite the fact that I ran around in a knee-length skirt with no tights all day? Am I such a weird new girl that a marking like that doesn't even raise questions?3. Jason's Deli chain offers dozens of extremely unhealthy dishes (with ...continue reading.

Doubly Delicious

Bobby and I tried a new, upscale restaurant last night and, despite earlier thunderstorms and looming clouds in the distance, we asked to sit outside on the patio. Halfway through the meal, the clouds had become very dark and ominous, and were moving quickly in our direction. Other customers started moving inside and as the wind picked up, our waiter checked in and told us to head inside and wait by the door while he prepared a table. Although he'd said we could leave all of our food, we still brought in our drinks. Once we'd been seated indoors, we waited for the remainder of our food to appear. I had a feeling, however, that somebody thought we were done with them and took the dishes back to the kitchen; after all, we had already eaten three-quarters of the food. After five minutes of waiting, our waiter came over and ...continue reading.
